Statue of Daniel Jeanrichard
by Charles-François-Marie Iguel (Swiss sculptor), 15 July 1888, for the opening of the École d’Horlogerie of Le Locle.
Daniel Jeanrichard
Working into further development for our coming AI animation film and accompanying documentary about the beginnings of the Swiss watchmaking industry in the region of La Chaux de Fonds, we recently visited Le Locle. This small mountain city today still holds the most important concentration of renowned watchmaking houses.
Jeanrichard’s story is, in many ways, the origin myth of Swiss watchmaking industry myth and carries its spirit. Born in the small rural hamlet of Les Bressels in the 17th century, his life reminds us that innovation often begins with curiosity, persistence, and the courage to depart from what is expected.
Daniel Jeanrichard celebrates the profound truth that when knowledge and resources are shared rather than hoarded, they have the power to transform our world and uplift entire communities. It’s a film about innovation, community, and the mysterious alchemy by which one person’s obsession becomes an entire culture’s legacy.
