06 Focus on Education

About this Opening
Our last opening last Friday 23rd of May FOCUS ON EDUCATION and in collaboration with and at Spazio Ado and Fondazione Amilcare, offered reflections on the role of education in an era marked by uncertainty. It explored how chance, the unexpected, and the relationship between information and knowledge could redefine educational processes.

Generously moderated by experienced Nicola Lüönd (Journalist, Radiotelevisione Svizzera RSI), there were fascinating discussions held by Galli Marco (Sociologist, Head of Family and Youth Office UFAG/DSS), Mauro Pedroni (Psychoanalyst) and Gian Paolo Conelli (Director, Fondazione Amilcare), Felix A. Bachmann (Co-Director, Generative Center). Particularly interesting were interventions by young students and participants offering fresh and personal contributions to the discussion in general.

We are looking forward to continuing this discussion and the research this has entailed.

Abstract
This opening, in collaboration with and at Spazio Ado and Fondazione Amilcare, offered reflections on the role of education in an era marked by uncertainty. It explored how chance, the unexpected, and the relationship between information and knowledge could redefine educational processes. Featuring contributions from experts in psychoanalysis, anthropology, psychology, and education, the program was divided into two key segments: the first addressed education as a space for engaging uncertainty, examining the role of educators navigating between guidance and openness to the unforeseen; the second explored how artificial intelligence was transforming paradigms of learning and knowledge transmission. The goal was to foster dynamic exchanges, alternating expert presentations with interactive dialogues, encouraging open and interdisciplinary discussion. The opening concluded with the book presentation "Un café comme métaphore" by Jean-Claude Métraux, offering an additional perspective on education as a complex and unpredictable human experience.

17:30 – 18:30 | Book Presentation: "Un café comme métaphore"
Jean-Claude Métraux and Moraya Knecht – in French with the option of participation in Italian.
This book critically examines traditional university teaching models, highlighting hierarchical structures that often overlook student contributions. Inspired by Jean-Claude Métraux's course "Santé et migration," it proposes an "unbounded pedagogy" characterized by solidarity, collaboration, and horizontality. This approach values students' lived experiences, facilitating dynamic exchanges between educators and learners, using the metaphor of coffee to emphasize dialogue, relationships, and mutual learning.A collective effort involving students, psychologists, and Métraux's colleagues, this publication presents a concrete example of inclusive pedagogy. It details practical experiences such as psychotherapy internships and fieldwork conducted during the pandemic, underscoring the importance of shared knowledge and authentic human interactions. The book invites readers to radically reconsider academic roles, advocating for a more open, community-oriented teaching practice attentive to individual diversity.

18:30 - 20:00 | Follow-up Discussion and Exchange at the Generative Center
